Hello again all! In our last post, we talked about what ClickMagick is and how it can benefit you as an affiliate marketer.
So this post is about setting up your own custom domain onto your ClickMagick in order for us to replace that nasty naked affiliate link and make it something that actually RELATED to the topic we are trying to promote.
Let’s get started.
First thing we have to do is buy a domain that we want. This can be done using a number of different domain sellers, such as GoDaddy, or my favorite – Namecheap. It offers extremely cheap domains, usually for under a dollar that you can then use as your own.
In this post, I will go through the process in Namecheap, as that is what I am using. If you want to use some other providers, there is probably a way you can integrate it with ClickMagick as well.
So,
1) Login to your Namecheap account.
2) Under the ‘domains’ tab, click on ‘registrations’.
3) Type in a domain that you want to ideally use – something that relates to your product(s) you are selling. So if you are advertising coffee mugs, perhaps look for something centered around coffee mugs… maybe coffeemugs.com?
4) Select the domain that you like and add to cart. Most offers will be available for just 0.88 cents PER YEAR, but if not, try a different domain name that is still revolving around your topic. For example if coffeemugs.com is taken, try greatcoffeemugs.com/club/site, etc…
5) Finalize the purchase of your domain name.
OK, so we have purchased our domain. Now we need to be able to integrate it with our ClickMagick. Before we head over to ClickMagick, we need to do a few quick fixes on our Namecheap dashboard.
6) Under ‘account’ on your tab options, click on ‘dashboard’.
7) To the right of your new domain you have purchased, select ‘manage’.
8) Under the ‘domain’ tab, ensure the ‘nameservers’ is set to ‘Namecheap BasicDNS’, then click on ‘advanced DNS’ settings tab.
9) Delete everything you have under ‘host records’.
10) Click the ‘add new record’ button at the bottom of ‘host records’ and add a total of 2 more host records. Make sure they are both ‘URL Redirect Record’, and both masked.
11) For the first one under ‘host’, type in ‘@’. For the second host record, type in ‘www’.
12) Under the value field for both host types, type ‘http://www.clkmg.com/x/’ where x represents your username. So if my username is ‘Ambition’, I will type ‘http://www.clkmg.com/Ambition/’ into the field.
Awesome.
So that does it for the Namecheap part. Now we need to go to ClickMagick to complete the rest. Don’t worry, we are almost done!
13) When you log into ClickMagick, go to the ‘tools’ tab at the top, and select ‘domain manager’.
14) Type in your new domain name that you purchased from Namecheap, and click ‘add custom domain’. Leave the other options untouched! Just paste your new URL and click ‘add custom domain’.

Now you will be able to use this new custom domain in your ClickMagick tracking, which will allow you to mask that ugly affiliate link and make your domain name more relevant to the offer you are promoting.
